About Me

Breathy Vowel: Gangwon-do, South Korea; I am heading towards my third year of teaching English, and my second in South Korea, having also taught in Guatemala for a year. I'm currently teaching high school and elementary students. I plan to share my lesson plans on this blog, along with some of my reflections and ideas about teachings. I'll also use it as a home for some of my writings about linguistics, providing I'm accepted on to a distance MA program next year. Please feel free to use anything that you find on the site. About The Name

Reading through the A-Z of linguistics terms looking for inspiration, "Breathy Vowel" winked at me. It immediately conjured up images of the kinds of sounds ample-bosomed French singers might whisper gently in my ear on a brandy-steeped night in a musty corner of Paris. As it turned out, it's a phonation largely found in Indic and Bantu languages (thanks Wikipedia). Not so romantic after all. Shame.
